12 Week Ultrasound

We had our 12 week ultrasound yesterday afternoon and unfortunately they wouldn't let us videotape. We're not sure if it was just this first ultrasound or throughout the pregnancy but we'll try again next time!
BUT! We got to see the Baby for almost 10 minutes!!! The first image that came up was two little feet...it was amazing! It started shuffling it's little feet...Neal said it's going to be a dancer like us! We then saw it's full body profile and it was sooooo cute! It would bounce a little here and there and had it's arm behind its head like it was hanging out =D The technician did some measurements and it measures right at 12 weeks. We also heard the heartbeat and it was at 162 bpm. Then Baby with it's arm still behind it's head started sucking on it's thumb! It was so relaxed that we all started laughing and I moved and Baby did a summersault and totally turned it's body the other way around!
Here's Baby relaxing...

Here's when Baby did the summersaults and changed positions...

Here's an aerial view...you can see two little arms playing and a head.

We then treated ourselves to a cupcake at Sprinkles. Desserts are still a little too sweet for me but Sprinkles Cupcakes are so expensive that I made myself enjoy it! Of course we got our little girl Socks her own little cupcake =D We brought the bag home and she immediately knew it was for her (or at least hoping it was).

Your Pregnancy: Week 12

First trimester: Check! The nausea, fatigue, mood swings, and bathroom dashes should soon fade, but (sorry!) headaches and dizziness will probably get more intense. The good news: You're about to embark on the second trimester, when mood and energy levels generally peak.

Baby's now the size of a plum!
As you move into the second trimester, baby shifts into the growth and maturation stage. After weeks in the critical development stage, almost all of her systems are fully formed.
(The Bump)

How your baby's growing:

The most dramatic development this week: reflexes. Your baby's fingers will soon begin to open and close, his toes will curl, his eye muscles will clench, and his mouth will make sucking movements. In fact, if you prod your abdomen, your baby will squirm in response, although you won't be able to feel it. His intestines, which have grown so fast that they protrude into the umbilical cord, will start to move into his abdominal cavity about now, and his kidneys will begin excreting urine into his bladder.
Meanwhile, nerve cells are multiplying rapidly, and in your baby's brain, synapses are forming furiously. His face looks unquestionably human: His eyes have moved from the sides to the front of his head, and his ears are right where they should be.
Your Baby in Week 12 of Pregnancy
By now, your baby weighs a full half-ounce and is about the size of a large plum. Most of his systems are in place, though there's still plenty of maturing to do. For one thing, his fetal digestive system is beginning to practice contraction movements necessary for eating, and his bone marrow is busy making white blood cells — weapons against germs once he's out of your safe haven. The pituitary gland (at the base of the brain) has started producing the hormones that'll enable him (or her) to make babies of his (or her) own in a couple of decades or so.
Your Body in Week 12 of Pregnancy
If all those changes in your baby sound dizzying, that may just be you dealing with yet another problematic pregnancy symptom: Lots of women experience occasional dizziness and/or feel faint due to progesterone, which causes increased blood flow to your baby by relaxing your own blood vessels. The decrease in blood flow to your body and brain, along with typically lower blood-sugar levels during pregnancy, can set your world a-spinning. Do your part to keep your equilibrium by eating regularly, getting adequate rest, and standing up slowly.

Our next appointment is on January 25th...that seems so far away! But it'll be exciting cause we'll be almost 15 weeks...we'll see a little more of Baby's personality =D
