Lessons Learned

With the crazy event that happened with Socks over the weekend we have seroiusly learned some valuble lessons and realized that we need much more preparation with Savannah and Socks.

  • First of all...I need to learn how to keep myself calm in situations like that. I will admit though that seeing Neal a little freaked out, freaked me out even more cause he's suppose to be Superman and fix everything!
  • We need to have all Emergency numbers and Doctor's number programmed into both of our cell phones and have them posted as well around the house....(we both didn't have this ever since we moved)
  • Always have gas in your car! I am usually guilty of waiting for the tank to go empty and have my loving husband fill it up for me...luckily we had half a tank of gas!!!
  • We need to locate the nearest hospitals and ER clinics...(we both didn't have a clue where one was cause we never took the time to know...thinking we'd never need one)
  • Try to have easy access or copies to immunizations, medications, etc (we got asked a lot of questions about past appointments, shots, doctors information and were clueless (well more like in shock) we were both stressed out that we couldn't remember anything
  • Always have a good amount of money in both of our accounts in case you don't have a credit card (our credit card was compromised last week and didn't have active CC with us...we usually only have 'entertainment' money on our debit cards)
These are just a few things that we need to prepare for for Savannah and Socks. We quickly realized that our lack of knowledge is not acceptable in any emergency. It's sad to say but my sister mentioned that maybe this was a way that Socks was preparring us for when Savannah comes...to show us that as much as we "think" we're prepared...we're not! Unfortunately, Socks had to be an 'example' of how uneducated we are about what we needed to do and what was available to us...I'm glad that it has kicked our butts into gear to really research more cause it's not just about us anymore.

I'm not saying we're going to be crazy and have our kid and dog walk around with an emergency card on their back but for sure we will be well prepared whether we're in Irvine, Mission Viejo, Cypress or Long Beach!!!
